Infrastructure Working Party – members

Application closing date: 15 June

The IFoA’s Finance and Investment Board is seeking two additional members to join this established working party. Lay members (non-IFoA members) are also welcome.

Background

The Infrastructure Working Party studies infrastructure as an investment for insurance companies and pension funds. In 2022 the working party published an introductory investment guide which was discussed at a well-attended webinar in October 2022.

Since then, the working party has produced several more publications, including a primer for investing in telecommunications, a discussion paper on pooled funds, and a ‘think piece’ for public-private partnerships. Some members of the working party wrote an article on managing infrastructure resilience and adaptation which is now publicly available online and formed the basis of an IFoA sessional meeting.

Skills/experience

  • We are looking to attract a breadth and wealth of experience to the working party, including those occupying senior roles as well as those nearer the beginning of their careers.
  • Working party members should be enthusiastic about becoming involved in infrastructure research.
  • Applicants should preferably have experience in one or more of the following areas:   investment, risk management, performance measurement, benchmarking, research, or solvency regulations.
  • Prior knowledge of infrastructure is not required.
  • It would be advantageous to have a general interest in ESG, social development goals, or community needs for infrastructure of various kinds.

Task specification/scope

The working party’s task is to build on its guide, selecting particular areas for further study. These areas may include topics such as public-private partnerships, blended finance, social impacts, nature-based solutions, and resilience in the face of climate change.

Time commitment

The appointment will be open-ended with no fixed term. Members are expected to attend online meetings held from 3pm to 4pm UK time on the first Wednesday of each month and to participate in relevant research projects. The time commitment will vary according to the nature of the work being undertaken and will probably be about 5 to 10 hours per month. It may be more when publication deadlines are approaching.
